PIFFF 2019 - Short film competitions

The PIFFF teams selected you this year 15 jewels to discover during two exceptional sessions on saturday december 14th at Max Linder Panorama!

The public will be able to vote for the Golden Eye of the best French short and the Golden Eye of the best international short.

A jury of 5 personalities will award the Grand Jury Prize for a French short and the Ciné+ Frisson Prize will be awarded by the management of the channel.

The Jury

Mounia Meddour - Director, writer

Mounia Meddour was born and raised in Algeria. At the age of 18, she moved to France with her family as a result of death threats they received during the Algerian Civil War. She studied journalism before joining the summer directing program at La Fémis in Paris. Her first short film, Edwige (2011) won the Ciné+ Award at the Saint-Jean-de- Luz Festival, the UniFrance Short Film Award and was featured in several festivals including Dubai International Film Festival. Papicha is her first feature-film. 

Jérémy Clapin - Director, writer

Jérémy Clapin studied animation and illustration at the Paris School of Decorative Arts (EnsAD) at the end of the 1990s. After graduating in 1999, he started working in 2000 as an illustrator. In 2004, he directed his first short film, Une histoire vertébrale, that was well-received in festivals. In 2008 he shot Skhizein, in which he told the story of a man struck by a meteorite who finds himself 36 inches away from his physical body and becomes invisible. The film won more than 90 awards in festivals (Cannes, Clermont…) and was nominated for the César. Jérémy Clapin then continued working in advertising before directing Palmipedarium in 2012. In this short movie, his way of filming animation becomes closer to live action. In 2019, he was singled out as one of the 10 animators to watch by Variety. J'ai perdu mon corps is his first feature film.

Lilith Bekmezian - Art Director

After obtaining her stage design diploma at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris (ENSAD), Lilith Bekmezian turned to cinema as artistic director and illustrator. Since 2002, she has worked in the film industry on feature films, such as Mesrine : l'ennemi public n°1, Mesrine : l'instinct de mort, Lord of WarAu revoir là-haut and The French Dispatch. She is sometimes asked to make film accessories : sketchbooks, work of art reproductions on different mediums, etc... She usually works with French and Anglo-Saxon teams ; often in France, sometimes abroad. For five years, shehas been a techer at FEMIS school, she works with students from different departments and different promotions on the design of different projects through drawing. For two years, she has been developing personal creations in the field of comics, in collaboration with publishers loyal to her work (at the moment, Delcourt).

 

Alex Pilot - Director

Director, cameraman and editor since 1998, Alex Pilot has worked on a lot of programs and documentaries related to Japan and its pop culture, produced by the Pocket Shami company (co-founded in 2003) for channels such as Game One or MCM. In 1999, he also started to direct the sentaï series France Five, an independent project often considered the first French web-series. France Five was also presented and awarded in the Japanese program "Digital Stadium" for the national television NHK. Co-founder and program director of the Nolife channel (2007-2018), he directed countless news programs. Meanwhile, he worked on independent fiction series, music videos for Japanese artists, and portraits of creators in the field of video game.

Noémie Devide - Sales

Noëmie Devide started her career at Wild Bunch in 2011 as Vincent Maraval’s assistant before joining the international department. She was handling sales for North America, France, Germany, Eastern Europe and Japan. She joined IMR sales team in 2016 where she is now working as SVP of sales. Noëmie is also currently in charge of  acquisitions and co-production at Wild Bunch.
