One Cut Of The Dead has everything of a fantastic movie of the 2010s: Japanese direct-to-video film shot in DV, zombies, metaphysical delirium... Shinichiro Ueda skilfully avoids repetition thanks to his narration - better, he bypasses the haughty treatment of his subject by focusing on his characters. His film, already adorned with a halo of cult potential in festivals and in his country of origin, turns out to be a friendly tribute to the artisans of the contemporary B movie scene.
