Inspired by Jack Finney's novel and by Don Siegel's 1956 classic movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers by Philip Kaufman is probably one of the last great science-fiction and paranoia movies produced by Hollywood. In this film the genre becomes allegory, drawing its inspiration from violent events which took place in the US back in 1978, and showing via a Kafkaesque atmosphere the still existing trauma it left on the people.
