Like the recent M.F.A., Revenge offers a feminist re-reading of one of the most controversial (and macho) genres: rape & revenge. There is an added aesthetic touch, since this first feature, screened at the last Toronto Film Festival, has a neatly arranged lighting and bright colours, which act as an effective counterpoint to the darkness of the subject. Gore, pop and outrageous, Revenge will delight all amateurs of « French Frayeur » such as High Tension (known as Switchblade Romance in the UK) or Inside.
