Director of a breathtacking rape & revenge film (Katalin Varga) and of a vibrant and thoughtful homage to Italian cinema of the 70s (Berberian Sound Studio), Peter Strickland is a peculiar director: with The Duke of Burgundy, he looks closely into the perverse relationship between two women, in turns prey and predator, he captures ecstasy on screen and in the end he succeeds to create a pure and hypnotizing cinema object, with hints of Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch as well as of Jess Franco.
