Young Remy flees her fundamentalist home and finds refuge in a peculiar adoptive family, composed of prostitutes squatting around a gas station. She barely has time to adjust to her new life when the murders start piling up.

All the teenage deviants of the 1990s are orphans of Gregg Araki. The director of Mysterious Skin and Nowhere still shoots, mostly for Netflix series, but don't make us think it's the same thing. While he has many disciples, none have come close to the superb rawness of his style like John Swab with Candy Land. The film crosses a veritable thematic minefield in a series of interludes, touches the sublime in the disgusting, goes from laughter to fright without blinking. This miraculous tonal balance extends of course to its fantastic cast of actors, all on the same wavelength between bis and auteur cinema.
