Lieutenant Kate Sinclair's plane is shot down in the middle of enemy territory in Afghanistan. She finds refuge in extremis in an abandoned Soviet bunker, where the results of unsavoury biological experiments are hidden and must be unmasked.

With elements reminiscent of The Descent, Dog Soldier and even Doomsday, The Lair offers the chemically pure condensation of Neil Marshall's gritty cinema. A badass heroine competes in testosterone with a bunch of cowardly but courageous soldiers, and the disgusting gloumoutes cut through the fat and prove to be far too resistant to pain. Paradoxically charismatic, but wildly entertaining actors exchange punchlines at the most inopportune moments, lose far too much blood, take fatal wounds with irresistible grins. The Lair is that quintessential encore we all need at a midnight screening.
