The corpses of suspects in cold cases appear all over Hong Kong, in increasingly spectacular happenings. A detective on the sidelines, suffering from serious psychological disorders, leads the investigation.

In a Hong Kong cinematographic landscape more and more devastated by Chinese rule, Wai Ka-Fai's return to directing is an event in itself. A divine surprise, his film sticks to the madness of its main character (the immense Lau Ching-Wan, visibly aware of delivering his last stand), and multiplies the aesthetic swerves as we didn't think we would see in Hong Kong anymore. Detective vs Sleuths goes from thriller to horror with detours through fantasy, the editing and the script compete with frenetic audacity in a roller coaster full of daring to the dregs. The result is a grotesque, absurd, non-sensical, indispensable film.
