His popular science show is on the verge of becoming stale, his wife is unsure how to ask him for a divorce, and Cameron Edwin's life is slowly slipping away. Building a rocket in his garage could save his life.

With its suburban setting, its use of music, slow motion and finely saturated photography, or even a strange accident, Linoleum inevitably evokes Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko. Colin West's film nevertheless frees itself from this invasive tutelage by the infinite love it shows to its dented characters, played with great accuracy by stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan and by the female star of the immense series Better Call Saul, the no less immense Rhea Seehorn. They give Linoleum its heady, melancholy charm, that precious sense that lives have not been as wasted as we think.
