Posted on 08/11/24

Looking for new stories, forbidden territories and worlds that turn codes on their head? Or perhaps simply a dose of chills and fresh hemoglobin? The International Feature Film Competition is for you! Throughout the week, come and discover the best of the next generation of genre filmmakers. And don't forget: at the PIFFF, it's the public that chooses the Œil d'Or, the winning film of the International Feature Film Competition.

A worthy heir to The Hitcher, Lawrence Jacomelli's Blood Star (2024) offers us a new version of cat and mouse in a desert deep in the United States. And this time, the sheriff isn't exactly there to protect us... An epic chase to discover in its French premiere.

Three women, three victims of the same dark threat, contaminated by the sound of terrifying sobs...decades apart. For his debut film The Wailing (2024), Spanish director Pedro Martín-Calero plays with our most unspeakable fears, reminiscent of Alejandro Amenábar's brilliant debut. Good news: the film's team will be on hand to present the film.

How about another dose of psychedelic time travel, mixing every possible and unimaginable genre? Yang Li's Escape From The 21st Century (2024) is one of this year's most unforgettable SF visual slams. And I promise, no one will hear you soaring through the Max Linder Panorama!

Strange Darling (2024) by J.T. Mollner brilliantly overturns all our preconceptions about serial killers: they too have the right to live on love and fresh blood! Don't miss the French premiere of the indie sensation that has captured the hearts of festival-goers around the world this year!

Everything you always wanted to know about ghosts... but were afraid to ask. Taiwanese director John Hsu's Dead Talents Society (2024) is a hilarious plunge into the world of ectoplasms seeking fame on the Internet. The PIFFF's feelgood fantasy comedy.

Sailing in space, Andriy thought he was the only survivor of the now destroyed Earth. But one day, he receives a call from an isolated space station...Pavlo Ostrikov'sU Are The Universe (2024) is a rare and sublime SF gem from the Ukraine that absolutely deserves to be enjoyed at the cinema. But that's all we have to say!

Fans of folk horror, rejoice! Heresy (2024) by Dutch director Didier Konings, in its French premiere, plunges us into the terrifying story of a young woman in search of motherhood, in a medieval Puritan village near a forbidden forest... where the monsters aren't always who you think they are. Didier Konings will be with us!

Do you know the story of a time loop in a desert that wants to break out of the cliché time loop loop? Desert Road (2024) by American director Shannon Triplett offers an already cult reinterpretation of this SF genre, all finesse, brilliance and humanity. A French premiere to be savored without moderation.

It's always a treat to catch up with German director Tilman Singer, the little genius behind Luz in 2018. He's back in top form with Cuckoo (2024), a surreal horror film with a gentle Alpine accent, and one of this year's most unclassifiable. Not to mention the presence of Hunter Schafer, Hollywood's rising (and brightest) star.

The Assessment (2024) is the first film by Fleur Fortuné, half of the duo Fleur & Manu and master of M83 clips. For her debut, she concocts a fascinating SF thriller where, in a dystopian future, a young couple must pass a test before conceiving a child. The whole thing is led by a gold-plated cast (Alicia Vikander and Elizabeth Olsen). And that's not all: Fleur Fortuné will be at the Max Linder Panorama for this French premiere.
