The butcher gets out of prison after the assault of a North African man whom he suspected of raping his daughter. He moves in with his mistress and quickly feels trapped. He goes back to Paris, with hatred in his belly, determined to get back everything he has left.

The sequel to the medium-length film Carne was produced with ad hoc suffering. Financing and development over a very long period of time, shooting with extreme economy, I Stand Alone was born in pain. Gaspar Noé waits until the last moment to write the monologue of his main character, a vomitous logorrhoea coming straight from the bowels of France, from its frustrations, its dormitory towns, its filth, its resentments, its political impasses accumulated ad infinitum and personified by a Philippe Nahon delivering one of the most outstanding performances in the history of French cinema. Suddenly, the void.
